We see a lot of men and women with headaches in our Parma, Middleburg Heights office, and Baker Chiropractic Wellness Center has been able to support many of them. Furthermore, the World Health Organization (WHO) reports that 50 percent of all adults have a problem with some sort of headache condition, so this actually isn’t unexpected. One of the most prevalent sorts of headaches that our patients struggle with is cervicogenic headache which, thankfully, chiropractic can often help.
What is a Cervicogenic Headache?
A cervicogenic headache is one that comes from problems in the cervical spine. It can be thanks to a condition with either the spine itself (primarily, the vertebrae, joints, or discs), or it may be triggered by a problem in the muscles and tendons of your neck. This dysfunction in your spine contributes to constriction or aggravation of the spinal nerves, which can result in headache pain.
How do you know if the headache you are struggling with is a cervicogenic headache? Aside from being given a diagnosis from a healthcare specialist, a frequent symptom of cervicogenic headaches is tenderness or pain in your neck. This is sometimes combined with pain in the back of your head or between your shoulder blades.
Chiropractic to the Rescue
Since cervicogenic headaches will not subside until whatever problem is initiating them is remedied, it is essential to receive treatment instead of just trying to "wait it out." Chiropractic care is an effective solution, and one that provides a great deal of relief.
In one study circulated in Chiropractic & Osteopathy, experts looked at 80 people who had repeated cervicogenic headaches. Fifty percent got chiropractic care and the other fifty percent engaged in light massage therapy. Each participant was examined 12 and 24 weeks after the procedures and it was found that chiropractic delivered the best results.
Specifically, this study found that chiropractic adjustments gave patients more pain relief and decreased the frequency of headaches that occurred. In addition to that, it also minimized the disability that resulted from these painful headaches.
